I almost missed it! I forgot about the Thursday’s Windows photo challenge that I’d found on a blog I follow, Sandra Conner, By the Book. I missed posting on a Thursday by a few minutes! It’s now 12:10 a.m. Yes, I’m still awake. Bummer. But at least I have something fun to do while I try to get sleepy. I took this photo through the window of our car, in one of my most favorite places in the world: Cades Cove, Tennessee. I so much love the Smokies, and especially this part of the Smokies. I lived in a couple of places that were very much like these, only not in as good a shape. One had a dirt floor. I can remember my mother sprinkling water on the floor before she swept it. Yes, you DO sweep dirt floors! She had that thing packed hard as a rock, and when she swept it, it actually LOOKED like it had been swept. I was only about 4 then, I think, but amazingly, that image stays in my mind. So this picture kind of brought that whole time of my life back to the surface. It was a pleasant memory. Thanks, Sandra, for offering this challenge.

Isn’t it fun! It was somewhere near the Smokies too, I just can’t remember where exactly. Someday, Lord willing, I’ll go back there and check it out more closely.

Hey, you are talking about my neck of the woods!! I live in E.TN and ride through Cades Coves frequently. It is a small world indeed! The upside down house is on the main parkway in Pigeon Forge. Let me know when you are ever back this way. I have been guessing about your home…do you live on the west coast?..love you… Donna

Yes, we’re on the west coast, but if we could find property in our price range there, we’d be there in a shake and a half of a lamb’s tail – forget the two shakes!! I grew up there, and never left TN in my heart.
TN is one of those places that everyone wants to go back to live. Most other places, people just move on. I guess those mountains make roots in our hearts. We have only been living here about 11 years, but it feel like it has always been our home. Don’t know what the future holds, but we enjoy it while we can.
You said you live in E. Tennessee…wherebouts? I grew up in that area, around Scott/Campbell Counties, and then around Knoxville/Lenoir City area. I have family in that area still…Maryville and Knoxville and so forth.
We live in Sevierville…..moved from Savannah, Ga in 2001. Heard God calling us here, and didn’t know what He was planning, but moved anyway. Haven’t regretted it one day. These past 11 years have been a huge blessing for us spiritually. The Lord has been busy in our heart and lives. We’ve learned a lot and also realized we have a lot more to learn.
Sevierville! I used to live in Seymour. I think that’s not far from there. I was only 10 or 11, so I don’t remember really well. Well, NOW I need to come back home and visit! 🙂

Now that makes me want to see TN. I like the thought of having a quiet vacation in a cabin with a fire and a good book.
OH – you should go and visit Cades Cove, and the rest of the Smokies. For me, they’re like no other place on earth. And a cabin, good book, and flickering fire…pure joy.
